LTYC's Black Leading Women's Celebration: A Monumental Success in Empowering and Honoring Women of Color

The Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Center (LTYC) is riding high on the overwhelming success of its 3rd Annual Black Leading Women's Celebration, an event that has become a beacon of empowerment and recognition for women of color. This year’s celebration, themed "Honoring the Impact of Rising Stars and Shining Legacies," marked a significant milestone in LTYC's mission to integrate the arts in education while uplifting Black women who are breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings.

A Commitment to Empowerment and Leadership

LTYC, a Baltimore-based nonprofit with an expansive reach across Washington, D.C., Baltimore County, Prince George's County, and the Hampton Roads area, has long been committed to empowering communities through the arts. This year’s event, however, transcended mere celebration—it was a powerful statement of intentionality. LTYC’s leadership, with its strong female presence, carefully curated the event to ensure it not only honored Black women leaders but also provided them with a platform to share their stories of success and resilience.

Lauren Blackwell, LTYC’s Chief of Staff and the event host, highlighted the significance of the celebration. "Managing 146 school and organization partners across nine school systems has shown me the critical importance of positive interaction and acknowledgment, especially for Black women leaders. This event is about more than recognition—it's about providing the support and empowerment that our leaders need at every stage of their journey."

Honoring Excellence and Amplifying Impact

The event featured a star-studded lineup of honorees, including Nykidra Robinson, CEO of Black Girls Vote; Shelonda Stokes, CEO of Downtown Partnership; and April Watts, a renowned multi-media personality. Each of these women was celebrated not only for their individual accomplishments but for their broader impact on their communities. Through dedicated marketing campaigns, LTYC ensured that the influence of these leaders extended far beyond the event, reaching a wider audience and inspiring countless others.

Dr. Dermell Brunson, President of LTYC, emphasized the importance of this celebration. "This event is our way of showing that we don’t just uplift and support women within our community—we invest in their stories. By celebrating their success and accomplishments, we’re helping to change the narrative around Black female leadership."

A Transformative Movement

The 3rd Annual Black Leading Women's Celebration has quickly become more than just an event; it’s a movement. Nicole Kirby, CEO of CarVer Communications and project manager for LTYC’s annual Leading Black Women events, spoke to the transformative power of the celebration. "While the event offers great food and networking opportunities, its core is a vibrant movement. We strategically promote each leader’s work, amplifying their impact and sparking interest from numerous organizations eager to partner with LTYC. This is a clear signal that the way Black female leaders are recognized and honored is shifting."

Looking Ahead

As the celebration continues to grow in significance and impact, LTYC is already looking forward to next year’s event. The committee is expected to begin confirming the 2025 honorees within the next few months, with an official announcement planned for December 2024. The Black Leading Women’s event has quickly become a transformative force, setting new standards for acknowledging and supporting Black women's pivotal leadership roles.
