August is National Black Business Month, a time to celebrate and spotlight the extraordinary impact Black entrepreneurs have made across industries. This month, we turn our focus to one of Houston’s own success stories, the trailblazing I'MarE Boutique, founded by the unstoppable Martha E. Elmor. From humble beginnings to styling some of the biggest names in the gospel industry, Martha has transformed her passion into a thriving enterprise, all while inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.
From Trunk to Triumph: The Rise of I'MarE Boutique
Martha E. Elmore’s journey to success is a testament to resilience, faith, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. A native of Franklin, Louisiana, Martha faced numerous challenges, including a layoff from her accounting job in 2016. Undeterred, she started selling clothes out of the trunk of her car—a modest start that soon blossomed into a full-fledged business after a successful closet sale.
Martha's eye for style and her dedication to empowering plus-size women quickly caught the attention of fashion enthusiasts. With a growing demand for her expertise, she launched I'MarE Boutique, a brand that has since become synonymous with confidence, quality, and trendsetting fashion for curvy women.
Fashioning Confidence: The I'MarE Impact
Martha’s influence extends far beyond her boutique’s doors. Having styled luminaries like Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Goo Goo Atkins, Maranda Curtis, and Shana Wilson Williams, she has positioned herself as a go-to stylist for the plus-size community. Her brand, I'MarE Boutique, is not just a clothing store; it’s a movement that empowers women to embrace their curves and express themselves with confidence.
But Martha’s ambitions don’t stop there. Inspired by her daughter Iceland, she also founded the I’ceE Collection, a sister boutique offering chic and trendy fashions for young women. Through both of her ventures, Martha is breaking generational curses, building a legacy of empowerment, and setting a powerful example for her daughter and others.
A Decorated Trailblazer
Martha E. Elmore’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. She has been honored with numerous accolades, including the Black History Achievement Award from her hometown and a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joe Biden. In Houston, she has been celebrated as a top professional, even receiving her own day from Mayor Sylvester Turner.
Her success story has been featured on major platforms such as Fox, NBC, CW, Houston Style, and the Houston Chronicle. Martha’s commitment to excellence and her unwavering belief in the power of faith and hard work continue to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs across the globe.
Giving Back: I'MarE Cares
Martha’s passion for giving back is evident in her philanthropic efforts. Through I'MarE Cares, she is dedicated to supporting her community and helping others overcome obstacles, just as she has. Her story is a beacon of hope for those who may be struggling, showing that with determination, faith, and a bit of style, anything is possible.
“I am proud of overcoming trials and being successful. I am proud of breaking generational curses by helping my daughter by gifting her a boutique. I am proud of being not just a business owner, but a business owner who gives back to others,” Martha says.
