Project Row Houses is thrilled to announce the opening reception and community market for the art installations of the Floyd Newsum Summer Studios program. This highly anticipated event will take place tomorrow, August 3, from 3-7 pm, promising an enriching experience for all attendees.
Empowering Houston’s Young Artists
The Floyd Newsum Summer Studios, a dynamic mentorship and residency program, is designed to support undergraduate student artists in the Houston area. Recognizing the challenges faced by emerging artists, this program provides vital resources including studio space, one-on-one coaching, and exposure to professionals from diverse backgrounds. These opportunities are essential for students to gain confidence and pursue their dreams of becoming professional artists.
A Showcase of Diverse Talents
Under the expert guidance of Curator and Programming Manager Cydney Pickens, alongside two dedicated community mentors, this year’s cohort of fourteen artists has engaged in a transformative six-week residency. These talented individuals, who are pursuing degrees in various fields, have explored a wide range of media, including collage, painting, animation, photography, and ceramics.
The culmination of their hard work and creativity will be on full display at the opening reception. Visitors can expect to be captivated by an array of visual and digital media that reflect the unique perspectives and artistic journeys of these emerging artists.
Join the Celebration
The opening reception and community market offer a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts and community members to come together, celebrate the accomplishments of these young artists, and support the vibrant art scene in Houston. Don't miss out on this chance to witness the future of art and creativity in our city.
