The Texas Health Care Association (THCA) has announced the winners of their annual awards, recognizing outstanding job performance in long-term care. Among the recipients, two team members from San Antonio-based Touchstone Communities were recognized for their high level of professionalism and care for their communities, residents and staff.
THCA’s Administrator of the Year, Sherrel Charlton, from The Heights on Valley Ranch in Porter, was selected amongst her peers for the honor based on her commitment to residents, families, employees, and the greater community. “Sherrel is the full package,” said Leslie Campbell, COO. “Her love for the residents and her team is second to none. Over the past several years, she has faced the unknown with grace and courage. She is an amazing leader and takes that responsibility to the next level.” Sherrel’s leadership success is evident at The Heights on Valley Ranch, where the community enjoys an outstanding reputation based on community ratings and results.
Additionally, Javier Perez Cortez, from Las Alturas Nursing & Transitional Care in Laredo, was awarded Director of Nursing (DON) of the Year. The honor focuses on innovation with residents, staff, and care delivery, as well as a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. “The Touchstone family is honored to have Javi on our team. He lives our mission every day, Making Lives Better through his passion and dedication to his patients, residents and team members” said Ubaldo Santana, Administrator for Las Alturas. (Mr. Santana was awarded Administrator of the Year 2022.)
Winners were selected based on the specific information submitted through nominations from managers and peers, as well as letters of support from colleagues, managers, residents, family and community members, or others familiar with the nominee’s contributions to long-term care. The awards were presented during THCA’s 73rd Annual Convention & Trade Show in Dallas, TX, on September 12, 2023.
