Wreaths Across America Invites All Downeast, Maine Community Members to Wave the Flag on September 12, 2023

National nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) calls for the residents of Downeast, Maine, to join in a national flag-waving effort. The organization is looking for a minimum of 105 people to aid in this endeavor. As part of this initiative, WAA will host a mile-long flag-waving line along both sides of Route 1 in Columbia Falls/Jonesboro, ME.

This gesture is intended to commemorate the flag-waving efforts of three women known as “The Freeport Flag Ladies” and to remind all Americans of the feeling we had – the pride in country, the unity, and patriotism – which was expressed on the days following 9/11/01.

In addition to flag waving locally, this national event will be broadcast live on WAA’s official Facebook page and over Wreaths Across America Radio. The broadcasts will include interviews and stories from volunteers, supporters, Gold Star families, veterans, first responders, and members of the next generation.

Tuesday, September 12, 2023, between 9 am –10 am ET

Community members are asked to meet at the Balsam Valley Amphitheater parking lot on Route 1 in Maine at 8 am for a safety briefing and refreshments. From there, participants will be shuttled to their posts near the ‘tip lands,’ where balsam is harvested to make veterans’ wreaths for placement on National Wreaths Across America Day.
