PVAMU Chief of Police named inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor of Law Enforcement, Security for The Texas A&M University System

Effective Sept. 1, Keith Jemison, Ed.D., Associate Vice President for Public Safety & Chief of Police for Prairie View A&M University, will assume a new role at The Texas A&M University System in College Station as the first-ever Associate Vice Chancellor, Law Enforcement & Security. In this role, Dr. Jemison will serve as the principal advisor to the Chancellor’s office on law enforcement matters and the liaison between the TAMUS member universities’ Police Chief’s Council and the Chancellor’s office.

“I have great confidence Chief Jemison is the right person to fill this new role,” said John Sharp, Chancellor of The Texas A&M University System. “His background as a police officer, and as an academic, is just what we needed.”

Jemison joined Prairie View A&M University in July 2017 after serving as Assistant Police Chief in Missouri City, Texas. He has almost 20 years of experience as a law enforcement officer and is a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Commander Michael Curry, who currently serves as second in command to Chief Jemison, has been named Interim Associate Vice President for Public Safety & Chief of Police. He will serve in this capacity for at least one year, providing stability and continuity to the Public Safety unit as the department’s and university’s ongoing needs are evaluated.

“Commander Curry has nearly 15 years in law enforcement and is familiar with community policing within the university setting,” said PVAMU Senior Vice President for Business Affairs & Chief Financial Officer Dr. Cynthia A. Carter-Horn in a memorandum to the campus community. “He has multiple certifications and advanced training that position him well for this interim role. Commander Curry is all about service to the campus community and keeping our campus safe; he does an outstanding job and is well-respected. I look forward to working with him in this advanced capacity.”
