UHD Hosts Northside Festival This Saturday

The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is hosting the second annual Northside Festival, produced by the Greater Northside Management District, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023. To be held in the Naylor Parking Lot of UHD’s College of Sciences and Technology Building, the free festival includes the Northside Art Market curated by Shop Local Market, a salsa tasting contest, performances organized by the Texas Salsa Congress, and live music.

During the event, a bicycle sculpture designed by Art Uniti and funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance will be unveiled. In addition, choreographer Adam Castanada’s “Migration Thru Northside” will be performed, and Blues musician Jonn Del Toro Richardson and the Zentono Spirit band will entertain audiences.

The Northside Festival is the culmination site for the 10th Annual Tour de Northside bike ride, which begins at 9 a.m. at Saint Arnold Brewing Company, 2000 Lyons Avenue. Tour de Northside participants will enjoy a 10-mile route through the Greater Northside neighborhood before ending their ride near the most recent additions to the UHD campus: the Wellness & Success Center and the College of Sciences and Technology Building.
