Houston Texans Announce 2023 Schedule

In 2023, the Houston Texans will surpass 15,000 miles of travel for road contests and will kick off their campaign on the road against the Baltimore Ravens on September 10, marking the earliest matchup between the two teams in franchise history and just the eighth time the Texans have started the season on the road.

In Week 2, Head Coach DeMeco Ryans and Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen will square off for the first time as first-year head coaches when the Texans host the Colts. It marks the second time the teams have met in Week 2 and the first time since 2006. Following their matchup against the Colts, the Texans will travel to Jacksonville in Week 3 and look to improve on their 28-14 overall record against the Jaguars.

Houston returns to NRG Stadium in Week 4 to host the Pittsburgh Steelers for just the fourth time in franchise history. The Texans then start a four-consecutive game stretch against the NFC South, marking the first time they have played four division teams in a row. In Week 5, the Texans will square off against the Atlanta Falcons followed by hosting the New Orleans Saints in Week 6. Houston owns a 2-0 home record against New Orleans, and this marks the third time the two teams will meet in both the regular season and the preseason.

The Texans then receive their bye in Week 7, marking the fourth time Houston has been assigned a Week 7 Bye. Following the break, Houston will travel to Bank of America Stadium for the third time in franchise history to take on the Carolina Panthers. Houston will close out their NFC South opponent stretch when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on November 5. The Texans own a 4-1 record against the Buccaneers and have won their last four contests against them.

The Texans will play at Cincinnati in Week 10, the team’s first road contest against the Bengals since Week 2 of the 2017 season. The Texans hold a four-game winning streak when playing the Bengals in Cincinnati and they lead the all-time series 8-5.

Houston will then host three games in a row, starting with their Week 11 matchup against the Cardinals, who the Texans hold a 2-0 home record against. Cardinals Head Coach Jonathan Gannon will be the second first-year head coach that Ryans faces this season. Houston also hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 12 and the Denver Broncos in Week 13.

The Texans travel to New York to play against the Jets in Week 14, followed by a road trip to Nashville to square off against the Titans in Week 15. The Texans have won three of their last four games against the Jets, including most recently in 2018.

In Week 16, the Texans will host the Cleveland Browns on Christmas Eve, marking the fifth time the team has played on Christmas Eve and the fourth-straight season that the two teams have met. The Texans will then close out the regular season against Indianapolis for the second season in a row.

Prior to regular season action, the Texans will begin the preseason on the road with their matchup against the New England Patriots on Thursday, August 10, followed by a home game against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, August 19. The team’s third preseason contest, at New Orleans on Sunday, August 27, will be nationally televised on FOX.

The Houston Texans have made single-game tickets available immediately upon the release of the NFL schedule. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster – the Official Ticket Marketplace of the Houston Texans. For all Texans ticket and schedule information, visit houstontexans.com/schedule.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING

This season, “flexible scheduling” for Sunday Night Football may be used up to twice between Weeks 5-10, and in the NFL’s discretion during Weeks 11-17; and for Monday Night Football in the NFL’s discretion in Weeks 12-17. During the Flex Scheduling Windows, the games initially scheduled for Sunday Night Football (on NBC) and Monday Night Football (on ESPN or ABC) are tentatively scheduled and subject to change. Only Sunday afternoon games (or those listed as TBD) are eligible to be moved to Sunday night or Monday night, in which case the initially scheduled Sunday/Monday night game would be moved to Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon games may also be moved between 1:00 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. or 4:25 p.m. ET. As in prior seasons, for Week 18, the final weekend of the season, the scheduling of the Saturday, Sunday afternoon, and the Sunday night games is not assigned. In Week 18, two games will be played on Saturday (4:30 PM ET and 8:15 PM ET) with the remainder to be played on Sunday afternoon (1:00 PM ET and 4:25 PM ET) and one matchup to be played on Sunday night (8:20 PM ET). Specific dates, start times, and networks for Week 18 matchups will be determined and announced following the conclusion of Week 17.
