For families on a budget, Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) will host ExxonMobil Free Family Sundays the first and third Sundays September through November starting Labor Day weekend’s Sunday, September 3. HMH will be open to the public Labor Day, Monday, September 4 with free admission for active duty servicemembers and their families through the Blue Star Museums program. Admission is always free for ages 18 and under.
Museum admission includes entrance to all four permanent galleries and featured exhibition The Negro Motorist Green Book, developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) in collaboration with award-winning author, photographer and cultural documentarian, Candacy Taylor. The exhibition highlights the history of The Green Book, the annual guide created in 1936 by Harlem postman Victor Green that provided African American travelers with information on restaurants, gas stations, department stores and other businesses that welcomed Black travelers during the era of Jim Crow. Made possible through the support of Exxon Mobil Corporation, The Negro Motorist Green Book will be on view in HMH’s Josef and Edith Mincberg Gallery September 1 through November 26, 2023.
Free tickets to the Museum can be reserved at hmh.org/tickets.
