Houston, can you believe we’re at the end of August? We have a list of fun activities that your whole family can enjoy to continue enjoying the last bit of summer!

As a reminder, Discovery Green® is continuing the Park After Dark Summer Series for the rest of August!

Below is a breakdown of what is going on next weekend:

HIIT class with FitMix

Wednesday, August 23rd from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

A fun and challenging bodyweight interval training class to burn tons of calories while gaining strength, endurance, and empowerment. Strap on your sneakers and get ready to run, jump and dance your way to a healthier you. Classes are free but registration is requested on site. Bring a towel and water, as well as a mat for yoga classes.

Strictly Street Salsa Dance Class

Thursday, August 24th from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Houston’s first official salsa studio, Strictly Street Salsa is celebrating its 25th anniversary by partnering with Discovery Green to present a summer of high energy, fun and easy to follow classes. Learn salsa, bachata, merengue and more in the heart of downtown Houston at Discovery Green!

Park After Dark

Thursday, August 24th from 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Beat the heat this summer at Discovery Green during Park after Dark!

Enjoy lawn games from Rocket Dog, the Gateway Fountains, music, food trucks, vendors, and special park lighting.

Free salsa dance classes by Strictly Street Salsa from 7 – 8 p.m.

Free gardening classes by La Lydia Garden Boutique from 8 – 9 p.m. every Thursday in July.

Rocket Dog

Thursday, August 24th from 7:00 PM - 9:45 PM

Built by legendary art car artist, Rebecca Bass, Rocket Dog is Discovery Green’s official mascot. Bass along with her students created Rocket Dog, an “art cart” in 2007 to celebrate the opening of Discovery Green. The cart is filled with lawn games such as bocce ball, horseshoes, and more for patrons to borrow while visiting the park. An ID is needed to borrow games and will be returned to you when the borrowed games are returned.

Hartha Yoga

Saturday, August 26th from 9 - 10 AM

A basic vinyasa yoga class for enhanced awareness and a strong, healthy body led by Andria Dugas. This Saturday class is a perfect way to start the weekend strong.

Classes are free but registration is requested on site. Bring a towel and water, as well as a mat for yoga classes.

Tai Chi

Saturday, August 26th from 10:15 - 11:15 AM

Led by Simone Oliver of Four Dragons Institute, this Tai Chi class focuses on slow, meditative movements for increased health and mental wellbeing.Classes are free but registration is requested on site. Bring a towel and water, as well as a mat for yoga classes.

Recycling Saturdays with Happy Earth Composting

Saturday, August 26th from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Bring your sorted glass, paper, plastic and aluminum to a recycling station provided by the City of Houston. Happy Earth Compost will be at Discovery Green to pick up your compost free of charge. Compost can be carried in your own container — that you will then clean out and take home.

Conscious Breathing and Sound Meditation Yoga Class in Spanish

Monday, August 28th from 6:30 - 7:30 PM

This free class offers Yoga, Breathing and Sound Meditation practices to the Latino and Spanish-speaking community of Houston. Led by Natalia Uribe and Sebastián Romero. Crystal sound bowls will be played by Saumil Manek.

Gentle Yoga Flow and Sound Meditation

Tuesday, August 29th from 6:30 - 7:30 PM

Strengthen your body, relax your mind and find your center with this dynamic flow yoga and sound healing. Led by Farida Meguid with crystal sound bowls played by Saumil Manek.
