NAACP Houston Branch 99th Freedom Fund Gala

Location – Marriott Marquis Houston - Photography by Vicky Pink - Annually, the Houston NAACP hosts the Freedom Fund Advocacy & Awards Gala to commemorate their progress and to fuel the work as they confront the challenges ahead. The Honorable Alexander Green presented Mayor Sylvester Turner the highest award given by the NAACP, the Mickey Leland Humanitarian Award. Under the theme “Steadfast and Immovable”, Chauncy Glover and Samica Knight served as emcees for the evening. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee gave a tribute to the oldest NAACP member, 112 year-old Lady Emma Primas. Some in attendance were Rev. Alan Patterson, Bishop James W.E. Dixon II, Howard Jefferson, James M. Douglas, Avelina Holmes, Alane Lillie, and Guy Rankin.
