Houston Early Music Celebrates the Holidays with An Elizabethan Christmas

HOUSTON – Oct. 15, 2018 – Now in its 50th season, Houston Early Music continues its anniversary celebration with An Elizabethan Christmas performed by Parthenia, A Consort of Viols featuring soprano Sherezade Panthaki.

In addition to carols and motets by Queen Elizabeth favorite, William Byrd, the evening will include holiday music by composers John Bull, Anthony Holborne, Tobias Hume, Thomas Morley, Thomas Ravenscroft and others.

Artists-in-residence at The Church of Saint Luke in the Fields in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, members of Parthenia are viol players Beverly Au, Lawrence Lipnik, Rosamund Morley and Lisa Terry.

Panthaki is an award-winning soprano born and raised in India, who received an Artist Diploma with top honors from the Yale School of Music and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Ave., 77002. A pre-concert talk by Houston Early Music board president and gambist, Pedro Funes, begins at 6:45 p.m.

Full-season subscriptions may be purchased for $170 general admission and $130 senior admission. Individual tickets are available for $45 general admission, $35 senior admission and $15 for students with a valid student ID card. Children under the age of 15 receive free admission.
