SPCA of Brazoria County Hosts First Ever ‘Fur Ball’

Lake Jackson, TX. (October 11, 2018) -- The S.P.C.A. of Brazoria County will host a fund-raising event titled ‘Fur Ball 2018’ on October 25, 2018 from 6:00 – 10:30 p.m. at the Lake Jackson Civic Center. Dinner, drinks, auctions (live and silent) along with music by Intercoastal Pirates point to an evening as entertaining as it is worthwhile. The S.P.C.A. of Brazoria County is a no kill shelter and as such has expenses that are above the norm. Add a massive flood event to the equation, and the need for funds is great and increasing.

Still Recovering from Harvey

The stress and financial strain of managing and re-homing lost pets in the wake of Harvey stretched employees, volunteers, animals, and financial resources to their respective limits. “There were hundreds of dogs, cats and even horses that were left on their own as the storm approached,” said Elaine Polemenakos, president of the SPCA of Brazoria County board of directors. “The dynamics for managing a massive flood that lasts for days was a new wrinkle that was different than a hurricane that, while devastating, is over relatively quickly.” As so many people in Brazoria County know all too well, the recovery from a massive flood like the one from Harvey last September takes months and longer from which to recover.

Fur Ball Fun!
