Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Condemns Saudi Arabia attack on Yemem Chldren

Houston, TX – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Senior Member of the House Committees on Judiciary, Homeland Security, and Budget, and the Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations, released the following statement on the killing of dozens of children in Yemen:

“If Saudi Arabia cannot explain that it did not intend and convince the world that this was a tragic accident in the course of war, then the world should condemn Saudi Arabia and they need to cease these misdirected violent attacks against innocent Yemen children. There should be an independent investigation into this Saudi-led coalition air strike in Yemen and the families should get answers now.”

According to the area's Houthi-controlled Health Ministry, 50 people were killed and 77 injured in the strike. The International Committee for the Red Cross said a hospital it supports in northern Saada province had received 29 bodies of "mainly children" younger than 15, and 40 injured, including 30 children.

Congresswoman Jackson Lee further stated, "I support and agree with the United Nations with a way forward through a dialogue on peace. This is a terrible war and it must end now.”
