Description
Celebrate 50 years of western culture at this year’s West Texas Fair and Rodeo
This year’s theme, “Remember when…1963,” will take a look back at the past 50 years of Texas tradition with weeklong carnival rides, livestock shows, food and special live entertainment. On Wednesday, Sept. 11, as a nod to its debut year, tickets will even be sold for the same price as they were in 1963 -- $0.75 for adults and $0.30 for students.
The annual parade will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 in Downtown Abilene, and gates to the Fair and Rodeo will open early right after at 11 a.m. The weeklong events will conclude with a grand prize giveaway of a 2012 Chevy Spark.
General admission is $8 on weekdays and $11 on weekends for adults, $4 for students (K-college), and free for anyone with a valid military I.D. Armbands for carnival rides may be purchased separately. There will also be special discount days throughout the week, including $2 Ride Night on Tuesday, Sept. 10; Senior Citizens’ Day on Wednesday, Sept. 11; and Coca-Cola Cantastic Night on Thursday, Sept. 12.
